How do we transform defund the police into meaningful investments in Black, Indigenous and people of color communities?
Directing money away from the criminal legal system doesn't mean that that money will be invested in BIPOC communities. When money is redirected from police it is often directed to non-profits through the human service branches of local governments, systems that are notoriously white-led, paternalistic and have little history of partnering with people most impacted by the criminal legal system.
Please join our esteemed panel, Kiyomi Fujikawa, Angélica Cházaro, Dean Spade and John Page with facilitator Shannon Perez-Darby to explore how we can transform criminal legal system divestment into community-owned investments.
